Mike Michalak, owner of The Fly Shop in Redding, California, is one of the best marketers of fly fishing travel and gear in the industry. He personally produces an amazing mail order catalog every year that is mailed to over 300,000 active anglers. His direct mail business is supplemented by a very successful retail outlet in Redding, and arguably the best angling e-commerce site on the Internet. Always an innovator, Mike challenged us to develop a print vehicle to support his Internet involvement and directly market his already impressive fly fishing travel business. Through the use of spectacular photography – much of it shot by Mike – and his inspired, no-sales descriptions of fishing in South America, this first issue on Patagonia is driving anglers mad with desire. We're now working on the next two issues of FlyFishingTravel.com Magazine, one which will feature the tropical saltwater destinations offered by The Fly Shop, and the other focusing on Western Canada and Alaska.
